Professor Toru Hisabori

Profile

  • I have been working on plant biochemistry for more than 30 years since I jumped into my research career from my master's degree. When I was in graduate school, I did experiments with a huge amount of spinach leaves. After that, we changed the research object to the proteins of plants such as Avena, Arabidopsis, and pea. After moving to Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1995, I started biochemical research using cyanobacteria and E. coli. So now, my laboratory deals with various organisms. The central issues in my current research are the regulation of chloroplast ATP synthase and the redox control mechanism of photosynthetic function. By skillfully combining these two topics, we carried out the CREST project aiming at ammonia production by cyanobacteria for 5 years from 2011. We are currently conducting basic research on photosynthesis.
